Massachusetts CPE Requirements

Note: JavaScript is REQUIRED to log in and use this site.

Pacific Northwest Tax School programs meet Massachusetts CPE requirements. Final authority for CPE rests with the Massachusetts Board of Accountancy. It is the responsibility of each CPA to verify whether CPE programs and sponsors meet Massachusetts Board requirements. A summary of CPE requirements and website link for the Board is provided below.

Sponsor Information: The Board does not pre-approve programs.
The overriding consideration in determining whether a specific program qualifies as acceptable continuing education is that it be a formal program of learning which contributes directly to the professional competence of a registrant in public practice. It will be left to each individual registrant to determine the course of study to be pursued. Thus, the auditor may study accounting and auditing, the tax practitioner may study taxes, and management advisory services practitioner may study subjects related to such practice.

Reporting Year: 6/30

CPE Requirement: 80 hours every two years

Ethics: The Board amended its rules, 252 CMR 2.14 (Mandatory Continuing Professional Education), requiring four hours of professional ethics. Effective for all licenses expiring on or after June 30, 2007, four hours of acceptable continuing education shall be in the area of professional ethics, within the existing 80 hours of mandatory CPE every two years.

Self Study: Formal correspondence or other individual study programs which provide evidence of satisfactory completion will qualify with the amount of credit to be determined by the Continuing Education Committee. The Continuing Education Committee will not approve any program of learning that does not offer sufficient evidence that the work has actually been accomplished.
