Iowa CPE Requirements

Pacific Northwest Tax School programs meet Iowa CPE requirements. Final authority for CPE rests with the Iowa Accountancy Board. It is the responsibility of each CPA to verify whether CPE programs and sponsors meet Iowa Board requirements. A summary of CPE requirements and website link for the Board is provided below.

Summary of Iowa Board of Accountancy Requirements

Reporting: 12/31 Triennially. Certificate holders whose last names begin with A-K will renew in even-numbered years and those whose last names begin with L-Z will renew in odd-numbered years.

Ethics: Every CPA certificate holder or LPA license holder shall complete a minimum of four hours of continuing education devoted to ethics and rules of professional conduct during the two-year period ending December 31, prior to the July 1 annual or biennial renewal date, as applicable. For a course to qualify to meet this requirement, the course description shall clearly outline the subject matter covered as professional or business ethics. Pacific Northwest Tax Service offers 3 hours ethics education through our course "Ethics for CPAs, EAs and Tax Practioners".

CPE Requirement: 193A—10.3(542) Basic requirement. During the three-year period ending on the December 31 preceding the July 1 renewal date of the certificate or license, an applicant for renewal shall have completed 120 hours of acceptable continuing education.

Self Study: Individual self-study) programs contributing to the professional competence of the certificate holder (job related) are considered to be acceptable. However, the amount of credit allowed for individual study programs is limited to 50% of the renewal requirement. Credit may be allowed for interactive self-study programs on the basis of one hour of credit for each 50 minutes spent on the interactive study program if the developer of such programs is approved by either the national continuing professional education registry or by the NASBA continuing education registry.

Pacific Northwest Tax School is approved by NASBA as a sponsor of CPE. Our self-study correspondence course and online education programs are qualifying CPE for Iowa CPAs.

Notice to Members of the National Association of Enrolled Agents: NAEA requires its members to obtain 30 hours of CPE each year. NAEA further requires the CPE be in compliance with IRS guidelines. As an IRS approved sponsor of CPE, our programs meet CPE standards set forth by NAEA.
